Celebrating Our Robotics Team's Journey and Achievements in Colorado Springs

Updated: May 13

The recent Robotics VEX V5 competition in Colorado Springs brought an exciting chapter to our Career Technical Education (CTE) Robotics team’s story. Thanks to the generous support from our community and school departments, our students not only competed but also gained invaluable experience and pride. This post shares their journey, highlights their achievements, and reflects on the lessons learned during this memorable event.

A Milestone Event for First-Year Students

Traveling to Colorado Springs, Colorado, our Robotics team stayed at Great Wolf Lodge and faced 34 teams from across the United States. For many of our first-year students, this was their first-ever robotics competition. Despite the pressure, they showed determination and resilience, competing in 15 matches with focus and teamwork.

The team earned 15th place overall, ranking among the top sixteen teams. This achievement allowed them to select a collaboration partner for the final rounds, a unique opportunity that showcased the spirit of cooperation in robotics competitions.

Team Collaboration and Competition Highlights

The Iowa School for the Deaf, ranked 11th, chose our team as their partner for the finals. Together, this alliance won the first match and faced strong opponents in the second. Although they did not advance past the final round, our students demonstrated perseverance and made the competition challenging for their rivals.

This experience taught the team the value of collaboration, not just within their own group but also with other schools. They observed how teams shared ideas and worked together to improve their robots, emphasizing learning over rivalry.

Support That Made This Possible

Our success and the unforgettable experience would not have been possible without the support from several departments:

  • Career Technical Education (CTE)

  • California School for the Deaf

  • Parodi Charitable Trust

  • CSD Transportation department

  • CSD Middle School

Their contributions helped with logistics, resources, and encouragement, allowing the students to focus on their performance and growth.

Lessons Beyond the Competition

The six students who participated gained more than just rankings. They broadened their perspectives on teamwork, problem-solving, and sportsmanship. Wearing their team shirts with pride, they felt a strong sense of belonging and motivation to continue improving.

One key takeaway was the openness of other teams to share knowledge and collaborate. This spirit of cooperation is a powerful lesson that extends beyond robotics, teaching students how to work together in any field.

Looking Ahead

Our Robotics team’s journey to Colorado Springs marks a promising start for future competitions. With the experience gained and the support of our community, these students are well-prepared to tackle new challenges and aim even higher.

We thank everyone who contributed to this achievement and encourage continued support for our Robotics program. Together, we can help our students build skills, confidence, and a passion for innovation.
