LEA/SELPA Day

The Outreach Team had a super successful LEA/SELPA day on March 11, 2026 with about 30 representatives coming to CSD!  For some of our visitors it was their first time on our campus. We provided a tour of our school and two workshops (CSD Applications/IEPs and Successful Assessments) before we served them lunch (thanks to Parodi) with the opportunity to meet with the students they have referred to CSD.

Outreach appreciates the participation of staff and students across campus; leading group tours, providing workshops, coordinating our students to meet with the LEA/SELPA reps during lunch and so much more behind the scenes.  The support from the DOI, Principals, and SSLs allowed many of our students to share their positive and often emotional experiences with the guests. This was made possible with the support of our interpreting team and CSUN interns.

The goal of the LEA/SELPA Day is to provide representatives the opportunity to learn more about our amazing and often misunderstood school,  connect with current CSD students, and engage with school leadership regarding programs, services, and resources.  With this in mind, the day was a success.

We received positive comments including:

"The information about assessments was valuable since the system is so frustrating"

"I loved learning from each of the students and seeing them all grown up!" and

"The highlight of the day was interacting with students during lunch and learning about their personal experiences at the school."
