Apple Volunteer Day: Community Collaboration for Campus Beautification

Spring break brought more than just a pause in classes at CSD. It became a time for the community to come together and give back through a dedicated volunteer day. Staff members, local business employees, alumni families, and college students joined forces to enhance the campus environment. Their efforts transformed several areas, making the campus more welcoming and vibrant for everyone.

Projects That Brought the Campus to Life

Volunteers tackled a variety of projects across the campus, each adding a unique touch:

  • Orange-and-Black Garden at the Administration Building

A new garden featuring bright orange and black plants was planted, creating a striking and colorful entrance.

  • Your Future Starts Here Mural at the Elementary School

Volunteers painted a mural that inspires students every day, reminding them of the possibilities ahead.

  • Orange Entryway at the Middle School

The entryway received a fresh coat of orange paint, setting the stage for a future mural that will brighten the space even more.

  • Flower Pots at the Elementary Cottages

Colorful flowers were planted in pots, adding charm and warmth to the cottage entrances.

  • Exterior Walls at CTE and Library Trim

The Career and Technical Education building got a fresh coat of paint, and the library’s trim was carefully painted to refresh its look.

  • Garden Weeding and Cleanup

Volunteers also spent time weeding and tidying existing garden areas, helping maintain the campus’s neat and cared-for appearance.

A Special Connection with the Apple Store

One highlight of the day was a presentation by Malik Amann, a former Apple Store employee who now teaches at CSD’s high school. Malik played a key role in building the partnership between CSD and the Apple Store at Stoneridge Mall. This connection brought additional volunteers and resources, strengthening the community bond and making the event possible.

Support from Local Businesses and Donors

The volunteer day was made possible through generous support. The Parodi Charitable Trust provided funding that helped cover event costs. Two local hardware stores, Dale Hardware and Fremont Home Depot, donated a large amount of supplies, ensuring volunteers had everything they needed to complete their projects.

Gratitude for Everyone Who Made It Happen

The success of the volunteer day depended on the dedication of many people. CSD staff members went above and beyond, volunteering their time and energy. Employees from the Apple Store, families of CSD alumni, and fieldwork students from Ohlone College and Sacramento State also contributed their efforts. Together, they created a stronger, more beautiful campus for current and future students.
